MAC Address Generator

Generate valid MAC addresses instantly with this free MAC Address Generator & Lookup tool. Create random or vendor-specific MAC addresses using Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI) prefixes, generate multiple addresses at once, and customize formats such as colon, hyphen, plain hexadecimal, or Cisco dot notation. Built-in OUI lookup also allows you to identify the manufacturer of any MAC address, making this tool useful for network engineers, developers, cybersecurity professionals, and IT students performing network testing, device simulation, and troubleshooting.

Generate random MACs for testing or identify hardware vendors by OUI.

What is a MAC Address?

A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique, physical identifier assigned to network interfaces (like your Wi-Fi card or Ethernet port) for communication on a local network segment. Unlike IP addresses which can change dynamically, a MAC address is traditionally burned into the hardware. It is a 48-bit hexadecimal address typically written in six pairs of two digits, such as AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF.

What is an OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier)?

The first three bytes (first 24 bits) of a MAC address represent the Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI). This prefix uniquely identifies the specific manufacturer of the network interface card. OUIs are registered and assigned by the IEEE to hardware vendors such as Cisco, Intel, Apple, and Dell. The remaining three bytes are assigned by the manufacturer to ensure every individual device is completely unique.

How to Use the MAC Address Generator & Lookup Tool

Our free MAC Address Generator allows network administrators, developers, and security testers to instantly create valid, randomly generated Media Access Control (MAC) addresses in bulk. It natively supports creating specific hardware addresses by assigning Organizationally Unique Identifiers (OUIs) for major tech vendors, and includes a built-in reverse lookup utility.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  • Step 1: Configure Generation Settings. The first half of a MAC address (the OUI) dictates which company manufactured the network card. Select a specific manufacturer (like Apple or Cisco) to generate a realistic address, or leave it as "Completely Random" to unlock advanced bit-level controls for Unicast/Multicast and Locally Administered (LAA) addresses.
  • Step 2: Choose Quantity & Format. Select whether you need a single address or a batch of up to 100 for network simulation. Then, choose the format that matches your testing environment (Windows/Linux often use colons or hyphens, while Cisco networking equipment prefers dots).
  • Step 3: Generate & Copy. Click the blue "Generate MAC Address" button. Your mathematically valid hexadecimal addresses will instantly appear in the text box. Click the green "Copy to Clipboard" button to save the entire list for use in your router settings, DHCP testing, or automation scripts.
  • Step 4: Use the Vendor OUI Lookup (Optional). If you notice an unknown MAC address connected to your network, paste it into the Vendor OUI Lookup box. The tool will parse the first 24 bits and query our database to instantly identify the hardware manufacturer.
